Repairing what was broken
Like many of these ideas, RPAIR was born from real-world frustrations. One of our founders, Abbie, experienced many problems keeping customers updated on their watch and jewellery repairs whilst working at her family’s jewellery shop. She thought "Could technology be used to simplify communication between repair shop and customer, and repair this broken process?"
When discussing this idea with her partner Michael one evening, the real lightbulb moment happened. Together, they quickly realised a solution that would solve many more of the problems experienced in this industry. One platform, that could help customers easily find and compare watch and jewellery repairs whilst simultaneously helping jewellery and repair shops win and manage more jobs.
We are a group of forward thinkers on a mission to make watch and jewellery repairs fair and easy for all. We have a balanced blend of backgrounds and we believe this helps guide our market understanding and inform our product decisions. These backgrounds include the watch and jewellery industry, design, tech product development, software engineering and sales. Together, we want to solve old school problems with new age tools.
Michael moved to the UK in 2014 from Denmark and has been working on the London tech startup scene ever since. His experience and skills saw his career rise quickly to the position of MD at tech start ups ADIA and Opogo. He successfully built teams and oversaw the operations, sales, finance and marketing for the companies. In 2018, his partner Abbie was telling him about a problem with the watch & jewellery repairs process she was working with and they soon came up with the concept of RPAIR (They also managed to have twins in the midst of all this). Michael and Abbie then went on to make this concept a reality.
Abbie has worked in the Watch & Jewellery industry for over 15 years, moving from Sales Assistant, to Head of Operations running 11 stores. Her dad & mentor is a Diamond Setter by trade and working alongside him, she helped grow his company from one store to an award winning, nationwide business. She has built strong relationships with global brands such as Pandora, Swarovski, Tudor, Omega, etc. and overseen HR, Sales, Ops, Store Openings, Buying, Pitches and Franchise models. Her frustrations with the repair process led her to sit down with Michael to create an innovative concept to solve these issues. She is excited to bring her skills to RPAIR to improve customer's repair experience across the industry.
Some of Paul's earliest memories are visiting his Dad's jewellery shop and watching him work on the bench making and repairing jewellery so this industry is in his DNA. His work and commitment to this product is in his Dad's memory. He went on to achieve a 1st Class degree in Transport and Product Design. Over the past 10 years, he has had a successful career in recruitment and grown his own tech recruitment start up, focussed on building software design and engineering teams for some of the world's best-known tech companies. He brings a unique blend of skills including branding, product, sales, business and an unparalleled network of techies who can bring RPAIR to life.
Dan is a CTO with extensive experience in early stage start-ups and operating at scale. He personally wrote the first BBC iPlayer and BBC News Android apps and later returned as Lead Technical Architect across all BBC News apps. Dan was Technical Lead on several fintech apps such as RBS, Clydesdale, COOP, NatWest etc. He was later hired to build a team at a start-up challenger bank 'B' for National Australia Group, working closely with the CEO from early on through to successful IPO. Recently, Dan has built a cryptographic identity start-up 'biid' as their Director of Development and Security. Building a development team over several tech stacks, he was responsible for the design, architecture and security. His broad technical knowledge will be invaluable to RPAIR's growth.
Making repairs easy
We want to make RPAIR a community platform that connects watch and jewellery repair shops with customers so they can compare smart quotes on maintenance and repair work. It will act as a channel for communication to simplify the repair experience for all.
We want to make watch and jewellery repairs accessible, transparent and fairly priced for our customers, and help our RPAIR Shop community win more business; manage their repair business using automation; and help them create a better customer experience.
